2010-2011 GRADUATE APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

Application Information

A message from the campus:

We recommend printing this page for reference.

SPRING 2011

The initial application filing period for admission for the Spring 2011 term begins on August 1, 2010.  However, because the California Governor and Legislature have not yet adopted a budget, San Francisco State University does not yet know how many students we can admit.  While we will process applications, no offers of admission will be sent until we know more about the budget. Once a budget is adopted, we will notify you about your options.

APPLICATION TO GRADUATE STUDY AT SFSU

IS A 2-PART PROCESS:

  1. You MUST apply to the University

If you have not already done so, please visit our "Steps to Applying" website for detailed information regarding how to submit your University application.

  1. You MUST apply directly to the academic program of your choice

All academic programs require application materials in addition to what is required by the University (e.g. Statement of Purpose, writing sample, GRE or GMAT, additional department application, etc.).  For information regarding what additional application materials need to be sent directly to the academic program, please contact the program directly or visit the program website (links to the program websites can be found on our Graduate Programs & Application Deadlines website).

INTERNATIONAL/FOREIGN-EDUCATED APPLICANTS

Applicants who require an F-1 or J-1 visa must fill out the CSU Mentor International Online Application instead of this application.  Please click on the link and read all instructions carefully.  Please also visit our Instructions for International Applicants website for additional information (including foreign document and English language testing requirements).

Students who were educated outside of the U.S. should visit our Requirements by Country website and our English Language Requirements website to see how their foreign academic documents will be evaluated and whether English language testing is required.

PAYMENT OF THE APPLICATION FEE

When you submit your CSU Mentor application you will be given the option to pay by credit card or by check/money order.  Although either method of payment is acceptable, paying the application fee by credit card will expedite the processing of your application.  If you choose to pay your application fee by check/money order, please visit our "Steps to Applying" website for details regarding how to submit payment.

SFSU must receive your application fee before your application will be reviewed.  The application fee is nonrefundable and may not be transferred to another application term.

General Instructions

We think you will find this application to be an easy way to apply. To make your electronic filing easier, please have your Social Security number (SSN) handy. If you don't have one, leave the entry blank. If you are or will be applying for a Social Security number (SSN), please contact the campus(es) you apply to when your SSN is issued so we can update our records. Copies of your transcript(s) will provide CSU with important information for admissions determination.

To complete the online application, simply type your answers in the corresponding fields or select your answers from the pop-up lists (where applicable).

After you complete a screen, click the 'Next' button at the bottom or on one of the sections listed on the left column to move to a different screen. Before you are allowed to jump screens, we will inspect your data on the current screen for errors or inconsistencies. If errors or omissions are found, you will be returned to the screen to correct your answer(s). Otherwise, your data will be saved and you will proceed to the requested screen. We also allow you to skip to another screen without your new data being saved. Be aware that if you use the Skip & Jump function on the left column, data on the current screen will not be saved and will have to be re-entered prior to submittal.

Upon completion of this online application you will be given the opportunity to print this application for your own records (do not send to the school). To do so, click the link on the application agreement statement and use your browser's print function. You may also print previously submitted applications by viewing the confirmation screen for each campus and clicking the corresponding link.

What happens next?

You will receive an application acknowledgement from the campus to which you applied. Read it carefully and follow any instructions about when to send in documents or when to take placement tests.

You will receive notification of your admission status.

When you are admitted to the campus, you will receive information about orientation, registration, and other activities for new students.

Important note: E-mail is a primary means of communication with applicants. CSU campuses will send important messages to you using the e-mail address that you list on this application. It is your responsibility to check this e-mail account regularly and read your messages from the CSU. Be sure to notify the campus(es) if this e-mail address changes.

Please be aware that this online application makes use of popups to display information, instructions, or for answering questions on certain screens. If your browser is set to block popups, or you are using a third-party popup blocking tool, please configure your system to allow popups on CSUMentor.
