<<< STEP 3: UNDERSTANDING THE TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE

Federal Teach Grant

This federal program has been established to encourage students to teach in high need fields at low-income schools. Grant recipients agree to teach for at least 4 years within 8 years of finishing their teacher preparation program. If the student does not complete the four-year teaching obligation, the grant will convert to an unsubsidized direct loan, which will have to be repaid with interest calculated back to the date the funds were disbursed.

Award amounts up to $4,000 per year for undergraduate programs ($16,000 total) and $8,000 total for graduate programs.
