CSU Chico

  • Bidwell Park, less than two miles from campus, is the third-largest municipal park in the U.S.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

The Cal Poly Recreation Center is a state-of-the-art facility that boasts several indoor basketball and volleyball courts, glassed-in racquetball courts, aerobic and weight training equipment, sand volleyball courts, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

If you enjoy outdoor recreation, then San Luis Obispo County is the place for you. Beaches, mountains and lakes are only minutes away from campus.

CSU Dominguez Hills

Dominguez Hills is located in the City of Carson, near the South Bay beaches of Manhattan and Hermosa, and minutes away from Los Angeles and Orange County cultural and recreational attractions: LA Music Center including the Dorothy Chandler Theater, many major museums and art galleries, ballet and music offerings through the vicinity, Catalina Island, Disneyland, Griffith Park and Observatory, the Queen Mary, Knott's Berry Farm, Universal Studios (to name a few).

CSU East Bay

The University Union offers a comfortable and relaxing environment for students to meet. It is also the center for many campus activities. The services housed in the Union include the Associated Students offices, food services, an amusement game area, and meeting rooms and lounges. Campus recreational facilities include a 20,000-square-foot gymnasium, a dance studio, weight room, swimming pools, racquetball and tennis courts, several playing fields, a 400-meter track, and a par course.

CSU Fresno

  • Bowling, billiards, and video games are just a few entertainment options students have in the Recreation Center in the University Student Union.

  • Fresno is located in the heart of California's San Joaquin Valley, about equal distances from San Francisco and Los Angeles, each three to four hours away by car or 40 minutes by plane. A gateway to the majestic Sierra Nevada, Fresno is within easy driving distance of three national parks: Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon. Recreation such as backpacking, hiking, sailing, mountain climbing, skiing, and horseback riding are just an hour's drive away.

CSU Fullerton

The Office of University Recreation Services is committed to providing all students with opportunities to participate in positive learning experiences and activities. Between the Titan Student Union and Titan Athletic Complex more than a dozen different recreational "venues" are available on the Cal State Fullerton campus. Humboldt State University

The University Center program offers recreational opportunities through outdoor adventure, aquatics, and leisure activities programs. The Outdoor Adventure and Aquatic Programs offer seasonal classes in backpacking, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, cross-country skiing, canoeing, and rafting, as well as fishing charters and whale-watching outings. Leisure activities include yoga, cooking, music, fitness, self-development, drawing, creative writing, fly tying, and martial arts. If you live in the residence halls you have access to the recreational facilities in the Jolly Giant Commons. This includes a weight room, sauna, hot tub, video games, pool table, ping-pong, foosball, piano, and a large screen TV. Newly released movies are shown on selected dates both in the Jolly Giant Commons as well as the Creekside Lounge. Some of the residence halls also have TV lounges in each building. In addition, there are many programs and special events that occur in the residence halls for both social as well as educational enhancement.

CSU Los Angeles

On campus, there are game rooms in the University-Student Union building, as well as a large sports complex with a gymnasium, swimming pool, track, tennis, and racquetball courts. Off campus, we are less than an hour away from great beaches and 10,000-foot mountains.

CSU Long Beach

Resting just three miles from the ocean, CSULB is a large, comprehensive, urban university located in the heart of a thriving coastal community. There are many recreational activities for students to enjoy both on and off-campus.

Conveniently located in the center of campus, the University Student Union offers programs and services for students and the campus community. The mission of the University Student Union is to serve as the Campus hearth, "the living room" of CSULB. As such, the University Student Union dedicates over 180,000 square feet of facilities to the task of serving out-of-classroom needs for all campus constituents. Facilities include: Games Area, Bowling, Billiards, Swimming Pool, TV Lounge, Arcade, and Food Court.

FROGS is the commercial health club in the CSULB Pyramid. Some students regard the 18,000 square foot workout facility as one of the most innovative and entertaining gyms in the world. Both students and the public can purchase memberships at FROGS.

Local hot spots include: Aquarium of the Pacific, Long Beach, Queen Mary, Beverly Hills, Disneyland, Dodger Stadium, Getty Center, Griffith Park Observatory, Historic Olvera Street, Hollywood, Huntington Library, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Mann Chinese Theatre, Melrose, Museum of Tolerance, Museum of Contemporary Art, Norton Simon Museum, Santa Monica, Staples Center, Universal Studios/City Walk, Venice Beach, and Westwood Village.

Weekend Getaways encompass: Big Bear, Catalina Island, Lake Arrowhead, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Pasadena, Rosarito, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and San Francisco. Student-sponsored ski trips, beaches, bicycling, skating, and volleyball, theaters, museums, amusement parks, community festivals, and concerts, art, politics, movie making, sunshine, ocean, mountains, desert, and so much more round out the recreational offerings.

CSU Monterey Bay

The 1,387-acre CSUMB campus has a swimming pool, two disc golf courses, soccer complex, sports center, cycling and hiking trails, and Student Center with game room. The family housing areas offer playing fields for softball, soccer, and other sports, and playgrounds for the young ones.

Read any travel guide and you'll see that the Monterey Bay region rates as a recreational paradise. Pedestrians, runners, skaters, and cyclists can enjoy the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail which stretches18 miles from Castroville to Pacific Grove. CSUMB's campus location, one mile from the shores of Monterey Bay, creates opportunities for surfing, kayaking, sailing, scuba-diving, hang-gliding, hanging out at the beach, and more. A few miles away, state parks like Point Lobos and the Big Sur coastline offer unparalleled hiking, rock-climbing, and camping options for those who like to rough it. For those who like to avoid the rough, there's no better place in the world for golf. From Pebble Beach just ten miles away to the 36 championship holes at Bayonet/Black Horse where our golf teams tee it up just down the road, there are courses to fit every level and almost any budget. For those who prefer indoor activities, the Monterey Sports Center, Portola Swim Center, Sanctuary Rock Gym, and various fitness clubs cover the gamut. Overall, if you're active, there's no better place to be!

Cal Poly Pomona

Cal Poly Pomona provides students with Fitness Express, a state-of-the-art fitness center located in the center of the residence hall complex. Fitness Express is free to those living in the Residence Halls and for a small fee each quarter to those who do not live on campus. Students can also participate in intramural sports, attend one of the 45 performances the Music Department puts on, take in an art exhibition, or attend a main stage production by the Theatre Department.

Off-campus, in the surrounding area, there are many activities for students to get involved in. In addition to several shopping centers and movie theatres, Cal Poly Pomona is only a short drive from natural (beach, mountains, desert), cultural (theaters, museums, galleries), and recreational (Disneyland, Raging Waters, LA County Fairgrounds) sites.

CSU San Bernardino

One of the easiest ways for students to expand their social life and to gain invaluable leadership skills is to join one or more of the clubs and organizations at CSUSB.

Activity groups and sports clubs are available for students with a particular hobby or favorite outlet. The Student Office coordinates Intramural Team Sports in which you can compete against other organized teams in basketball, flag football, football, and volleyball. Men's, women's, and co-recreational teams are available.

Cheerleading/Pep Squad - Promotes school spirit and community through athletics and sport. Performs at school functions and at other community events.
Cycling Club - Brings together students who are interested in cycling for recreation or competition.
Hockey Club - Provides recreation outside of the CSUSB setting by playing floor hockey against other schools and clubs.
Racquetball Team - Provides competitive opportunities within a recreational setting for those interested in racquetball.
Rugby Club - Represents CSUSB in the Southern California Rugby Football Union.
Ski & Snowboarding Club - An opportunity for recreational and competitive skiing and snowboarding for interested students.
Swim Club, Masters - Provides faculty, staff, or student the opportunity to swim for fitness or competitively.
Tae Kwon Do Club - Promotes physical, emotional, and spiritual strength of its members through self-defense skills and self discipline.
Volleyball, Men's Club - Provides competition opportunities with other campuses.

If you can't find a club you like, you can start your own.

  • You will find national fraternities and sororities, cultural, honorary, political, social, professional, and service organizations.
  • Special interest organizations range from religious, to recreation, to sports, to ethnic groups, and more.

San Diego State University

Students at SDSU are never without recreation and entertainment! Whether you are looking for an athletic challenge or you are ready to relax at a summer concert, San Diego has much to offer. See what's waiting for you at SDSU!
  • Known as a winter playground, San Diego has 19 miles of Pacific Ocean shores with beautiful beaches. SDSU is located just ten miles inland, making beaches very accessible to students. Within minutes, you can bask in the sun on a beach in America's Finest City.

  • SDSU's Mission Bay Aquatic Center offers a fun atmosphere for students, faculty and staff to learn a new water sport, such as sailing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, sea kayaking, kiteboarding and more! Take lessons, courses and rent equipment at the world's largest instructional waterfront facility.

  • The Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) is SDSU's new state-of-the-art recreation facility. The ARC is equipped with 5 multi-purpose gymnasiums, including four recreational courts perfect for basketball, volleyball, and indoor soccer. Workout on over 80 pieces of cardiovascular equipment, pump iron in the 7,000 square foot weight training room, or take an aerobics, kickboxing, yoga, spinning, or dance class! Feel like a challenge? Climb the multi-level 30-foot indoor rock climbing wall.

  • The Cultural Arts & Special Events (CASE) Board brings programs to SDSU that unite the campus community, explore new and different ideas, are informative and educational, and provide entertainment. CASE coordinates celebrity lectures, concerts, cultural activities and special events like Homecoming.

  • In the market for a concert? SDSU's Cox Arena and the Open Air Theatre host top entertainers! Recent performances include Prince, Elton John, Billy Joel, Matchbox 20, Dixie Chicks, and Tom Petty.

  • Aztec Center Bowling and Games is conveniently located on-campus, featuring 12 bowling lanes with automatic scoring, billiard tables, table tennis, and the latest video games. Open late on the weekends for inexpensive entertainment.

  • Need skis for a trip to Mammoth? Interested in backpacking through the Grand Canyon or kayaking in Baja? Visit Aztec Adventures! Aztec Adventures offers equipment rental from wetsuits to camping gear, and tune-ups for skis and snowboards. If you are an adventure-seeker, they also provide reasonably priced trips to places like Alaska, the Grand Canyon, Mexico, the Colorado River and more! ARC student members pay a lower price on trips.

  • Within a 20-mile radius of the SDSU campus is hiking, fishing, horseback riding, biking and camping! Take advantage of the warm climate and natural surroundings as you explore the scenic San Diego in places like Mission Trails Regional Park, Julian, Agua Caliente County Park, and Torrey Pines Reserve.

  • With over 600,000 acres, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest desert state park in the contiguous United States. 500 miles of dirt roads, two huge wilderness areas (comprising 2/3 of the park), and 110 miles of riding and hiking trails provide visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to experience the wonders of the Colorado Desert.

  • Golfers can play on over 75 courses in San Diego. Many of the courses are open to the public and offer affordable green fees. Prefer to be a spectator? Come watch the Buick Invitational each year at the Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course in La Jolla and see top golfers like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Fred Couples!

  • San Diego is home to three professional sports teams: Padres baseball, Chargers football and Gulls ice hockey. The Chargers and Padres play their games Qualcomm Stadium, located just minutes from the SDSU campus. This year, the Gulls, who play at the San Diego Sports Arena, won the Taylor Cup championship! Route for your favorite home team with native San Diegans!

San Francisco State University

  • San Francisco is perhaps the most beautiful city in the world. Among its many treasures are the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Coit Tower, Alcatraz Island, Golden Gate Park, and the Haight-Ashbury District. The temperature usually remains mild the entire year, allowing visitors and natives to enjoy numerous outdoor activities. San Francisco also boasts a wide variety of special events, including many rich cultural backgrounds. In addition, San Francisco is known for its vast selection of restaurants. For those with a penchant for staying up late, the city features some of the best nightlife in the country. A progressive and diverse city, San Francisco has something for just about everyone from all walks of life.

San Jose State University

An on-campus sports and event center is opening year-round for recreation and entertainment. Major musical artists perform regularly at the on-campus Event Center and also at the Compaq Center, which is within walking distance of SJSU. SJSU is located in the heart of downtown with many nearby recreation facilities: Cultural, historical, and performing arts sites including the San José Museum of Art, a new Repertory Theatre, and a sports arena; a Children's Museum; Great America Theme Park; several large shopping malls; beaches 45 minutes away; San Francisco one hour away; skiing 3 hours away.
