CSU Bakersfield

The main modes of transportation are the city bus that stops on campus with several arrivals and departures per day; bicycles: there is a bicycle path across the street from the main entrance to the campus; and automobiles.

CSU Chico

  • Enrolled students may ride the municipal bus system (CATS) and the student shuttle (Trolly) for free by presenting a CSU Chico ID card.

  • Buses have racks to carry bicycles.

  • Chico is served by Greyhound bus line and Amtrak trains. United Express provides air service. Chico Municipal Airport is within ten minutes of the university.

Public transportation in the form of buses and rail are conveniently located. Local taxi and rental cars are also available.

CSU East Bay

The Hayward campus is accessible by car and regional rapid transit. The campus operates a shuttle service from the Hayward mass-transit terminal (BART). The campus is also served by public bus service. Ample parking is available on campus for students who pay a quarterly fee or purchase daily parking permits. A limited number of metered street parking is also available.

CSU Fresno

  • Airplane - Nearly 100 flights daily to over 25 cities on nine airlines provide service annually to over 1 million passengers from the Fresno area.

  • Train - Amtrak service is available daily from the Fresno Amtrak Station. Bus - Fresno Area Express provides extensive city bus service daily from 5:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.

  • Bicycles - There are bike lanes off campus for cyclists.

Public transportation is accessible from the campus. A bus schedule is available to the public, and students can purchase a bus permit at a discount.

Humboldt State University

Airport:
The Arcata/Eureka Airport is located in McKinleyville, 8 miles north of campus. Service is provided by Horizon and United Express Airlines

Long Distance Bus Services:
Greyhound and Amtrak Bus Lines

Many students live within walking or bicycling distance from campus. The Arcata and Mad River Transit System offers free bus service for Humboldt State University students, and reduced fares for the county bus system, which runs from Trinidad to Fortuna and beyond.

CSU Los Angeles

The campus has a commuter rail station and express bus stop at the south end of campus, as well as convenient parking for students who drive.

CSU Long Beach

Walking, roller blades, bicycles, cars, and the Campus Shuttle are all available modes of transportation on the Long Beach campus. The campus shuttle runs every 15 minutes and transports students from the parking lots to the campus classrooms during the academic year and is a free service.

The City of Long Beach and CSULB are "freeway" close: near the junction of the 405, 605, and 22 freeways in Southern California. Long Beach has a comprehensive bus system with a new "Long Beach Runabout Bus Shuttle service" that covers all of the Long Beach City area. Service in the downtown area is free with a modest charge of $.90 for traveling to the extended areas. Travel to the greater Los Angeles area can be by Metro Blue Line Light Rail, which travels from the downtown Long Beach area to downtown Los Angeles. Long Beach Municipal Airport gives the traveler access to all parts of California, the United States, and the world.

CSU Monterey Bay

You can get here by air, train, or bus. The Monterey Peninsula Airport offers flights just 10 minutes from campus. Twenty minutes away in Salinas, the Amtrak and Greyhound stations offer direct campus connections via the regional Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) bus service.

Once you're on campus, MST connects the CSUMB campus to the greater Monterey-Salinas area. CSUMB Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) provides on-campus shuttle services including paratransportation to all members of the campus community. Most of the area is also very pedestrian and bike friendly.

CSU Northridge

Bus transportation is adjacent, but the Metrolink, carpooling and bicycle-riding are used as well.

Cal Poly Pomona

There are several ways to get to and from Cal Poly Pomona's campus. Public bus lines connect Cal Poly Pomona to the surrounding communities and have hourly arrival and departure times each day. The Metrolink, personal cars, and bicycles are also used. Students interested in carpooling can contact the Rideshare Department for the benefits of sharing a ride with people who live in their area.

While on-campus, students can enjoy a ride to class from one of the trams that run every seven to ten minutes. A shuttle is also available for students who live adjacent to campus in the University Village Apartments.

CSU San Bernardino

There are several means of transportation to and from campus. Public bus lines connect San Bernardino to surrounding communities. Interested students have the option of forming a CSU San Bernardino carpool or vanpool; sharing with others who live in the area will save money. For information call (909) 880-5193 and Commuter Services will assist you in finding others who are interested in sharing rides.

San Diego State University

SDSU has a bus transit center on campus. It looks forward to a trolley stop on campus anticipated in the year 2004. Currently there is the San Diego Trolley that can be accessed through the bus center. The trolley services downtown San Diego, Southbay (to the international border), East County and Mission Valley (including Qualcomm Stadium). San Francisco State University

Students, faculty, and visitors traveling to San Francisco State University have many transportation options open to them. Although some may prefer driving, traffic can be heavy at times and parking is limited. Here are some alternatives:
  • BART
    The Daly City BART station is 15 minutes away from campus and commuters can take advantage of the free shuttle provided by the university or the MUNI 28 bus.

  • SFSU Shuttle
    The shuttle services Daly City BART station, Bay Bridge, and Golden Gate Bridge.

  • MUNI
    The following buses and streetcars serve the campus:

    • 17-Parkmerced to West Portal Station
    • 18-46th Avenue to the zoo, Sunset and Richmond Districts, Palace of the Legion of Honor
    • 26-Valencia to Ocean View, Balboa Park, Glen Park, and Mission District.
    • 28-19th Avenue to Daly City BART, Sunset and Richmond Districts, Golden Gate Bridge
    • 29-Sunset to Ingelside, Excelsior, and Bayview Districts, Candlestick Park
    • M-Oceanview, downtown San Francisco to Balboa Park Station

  • SamTrans
    B-Stonestown Galleria, Daly City BART, San Bruno, S.F. International Airport.

  • Bicycle
    For those who prefer to ride their bicycles, the university offers several bike racks around campus in addition to the Bike Barn, an on-campus storage facility for students and faculty.

San Jose State University

The Bay Area transit system has been designed to serve the public's need of intercity travel. Numerous intercity connections are designated all over the Bay Area and provide easy access to the different modes of transportation. BART, CalTrain, ferry, and the bus are connected to one another, creating accessibility to cities throughout the Bay Area.

Valley Transit Authority (VTA) includes buses, light rail, and shuttles to make it easy to get to SJSU. What's more, VTA transportation is free to SJSU students.

San José International Airport is located five miles from the SJSU campus and is served by direct bus lines and the light rail system.

The Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is a 95-mile, automated rapid transit system serving over 3 million people in the three BART counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco, as well as northern San Mateo County. Express buses run from the Fremont station directly to SJSU.

CalTrain is the train service that runs between San Francisco and Gilroy.

Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) is a train service that runs between Stockton and the San José train station that is within walking distance of SJSU.

CSU Stanislaus

Public and private transportation to and from CSU Stanislaus is available. Stanislaus County Transit (800-262-1516) provides express regular weekday service for Turlock, Modesto, and Denair. The Greyhound Bus Line also provides round-trip service to the campus from Modesto, Merced, and Atwater. For those who prefer the comfort of a private automobile, Stanislaus County offers a ridesharing program that computer-matches students with others from the same area and similar class schedules (800-52-SHARE).
