| CAMPUS SUMMARY |
 |
One mile from the Monterey Bay and just a few miles from Monterey and Salinas, our 1,387-acre CSUMB campus offers nearly 4,000 current students abundant space to live and learn.
Founded in 1994, the university offers sophisticated technologies and spacious, modern facilities. Intel Corporation ranks CSUMB number 12 among the nation’s top 50 campuses for wireless Internet accessibility. The Chapman Science Academic Center opened in 2003 with state-of-the-art science and computer labs. A new signature building, the Tanimura & Antle Family Memorial Library, will open in 2008.
CSUMB serves California’s multicultural population, particularly making room for traditionally underserved populations to access quality higher education. Both closeknit and diverse, the campus community embraces differences and fosters lifelong connections. The U.S. News & World Report rankings place CSUMB first among public liberal arts universities for ethnic diversity and second for economic diversity. And The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education named CSUMB a 2005 Publisher’s Pick.
For the two-thirds of students living on campus, housing options include residence halls, suites, apartments, and family housing. Because the refurbished military facilities that make up much of the student housing came with bigger rooms than your typical university dorm, you'll have more room to live. NCAA Division II athletics, intramural and club sports, boating and outdoor recreation, hiking and cycling trails, student organizations, plays and open mikes, and lecturers and entertainers create a rich campus life with room to follow most any interest. Nearby, the world-famous combination of agricultural land, bay, beaches, coastal peaks, and small cities offers lots of space for cultural and recreational activity. |
